The gorilla trekking calendar is divided into two; the low season which is mostly rainy and the peak season which is mostly sunny.

The low season occurs in the rainy or wet season in the month of October to the end of November November, and April to the end of May.  During the wet season, Uganda receives a lot of rainfall. There are a number of advantages that come with trekking gorillas in the low season.

Advantages of trekking Gorillas in low season

  • Sometimes the authorities in charge of the gorilla trekking destinations offer discounts in the low seasons.
  • Due to low turn-up, the demand for Gorilla permits is low. It is therefore easier to secure gorilla trekking permits for any of your preferred gorilla trekking sectors or family unlike in the peak season
  • Accommodation costs tend to lower because of few customers. You can always get discounts on accommodation during the low season unlike during the peak season
  • The park is always less congested during the low season
  • Transportation to and from the parks tends to be cheaper compared to peak season.
  • Total safari costs are lower due to discounts given to accommodation, transport, and gorilla permits among others.

  • Slipper Gorilla trekking trails make the trek difficult
  • The Gorillas tend not to be less active in the rainy season
  • You need waterproof gadgets
  • Heavy rain affects your gorilla trekking experience
  • In case the trekking trails require crossing bridges, rain can break them and hence making the trek long and difficult.
  • The roads in some gorilla trekking sectors of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park are often poor due to heavy rains
