Chimpanzees are among our closest relatives, sharing over 98% of our DNA. They typically lives in family groups of 15 to 20 (though some may be much larger, up to 100), and each chimpanzee group has a unique personality of its own. Chimpanzees are highly sociable, intelligent, and communicative animals; their complex social relationships and hierarchies (groups are usually led by a dominant male chimpanzee) help provide mental and emotional stimulus they need.
About Gorillas:
Gorillas are large apes that are native to Africa. They are typically divided into two families. The mountain gorilla which lives in mountainous regions of central Africa and the lowland gorilla which lives in the lowlands, dense forests of central and western Africa. Though the two types are very similar, they have a few differences. For example, mountain gorillas tend to have longer hair, while lowland gorillas have short, soft hair.
Where are Gorillas and Chimpanzees?
In Uganda, Gorillas are found in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park. On the other hand, Chimpanzees are found in Kibale National Park, Kyambura Gorge, Kalinzu Forest, Toro- Semliki Game Reserve and Budongo Forest in Murchison Falls National Park.
How much is Gorilla and chimpanzee treks?
Currently, Uganda gorilla permit goes up to US$700 which chimpanzee trekking cost up to US$200. Each trekking session is paid separately and make note of the trekking date because the Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking permits are considered invalid at the expiration of the tracking date but you can reschedule to anew date before.
What is the best time for chimp and Gorilla Trekking?
Both Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking are done all year round but more interesting in dry season from June to October.
What to bring for Gorilla and chimpanzee Trekking?
Since you go through similar procedure, you are free to carry same trekking gear for both treks
1. A small day pack for personal items.
2. A few snacks of your preference
3. Camera. Trust us, you’ll want to take lots of photos, but remember no flash!
4. Durable, water-resistant boots with good traction in case of muddy slopes
5. Durable, water-resistant jacket
6. Layered clothing to adjust for a variety of weather (rain, heat, etc.). Long sleeves and long pants are recommended for any prickly 5.foliage you might trek through.
