The Major Five Wonders Of Bwindi Forest

The Uganda’s most visited Forest is none other than Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. It’s the same forest which makes up Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The forest is situated in far southwestern Uganda and the 9th largest among the ten National parks in Uganda. The forest was gazetted as a national park in 1991 and declared a UNESCO Natural world Heritage site in 1994. There are four locations for Gorilla trekking in BINP and these are: Buhoma Gorilla tracking centre, Nkuringo Gorilla Trekking centre, Ruhija Gorilla tracking centre and Rushaga Gorilla trekking centre. The 4 locations have a total of about 18 families as of December 2018 and the number keeps on increasing per year.

The forest its self is one of the wonders of Uganda, its among the remaining few tropical rain forest in the country and well known for receiving convectional rainfall. Below are the top five wonders found in Bwindi Forest:

Mountain Gorillas – It’s the top tourist attraction in Uganda and East Africa at large. Mountain Gorillas are the most visited primate in Uganda despite the high cost of a Gorilla permit at US$600 each.  Many of our past clients argue that Gorilla trekking is a life time event which every body should enjoy before death! Among the Gorilla species, mountain Gorilla are the mist liked and rarest in the entire world hence Uganda’s greatest wonder.

The waterfalls – Bwindi Forest hosts a number of water falls including Muyanga waterfall among others. The water falls offers memorable nature walks after of before Gorilla trekking. Enthusiastic hikers can take a hike or walk to these magical waterfalls after striking their imaginations with the rare mountain gorillas.

The birds – There are 348 bird species which have been recorded at Bwindi. They include 25 restricted-range species, of which 23 are confined to the Albertine Rift and four are globally threatened: African Green Broadbill -Pseudocalyptomena graueri-Vulnerable, Grauer’s Rush Warbler -Bradypterus graueri; Endangered, Chapin’s Flycatcher -Muscicapa lendu; Vulnerable and Shelley’s Crimson-wing -Cryptospiza Shelley- Vulnerable.

The Unique tree species – Bwindi Forest keeps over 163 tree species. Some of the tree species include Xymalos, Neoboutonia Macrocalyx, Monospora, Myrianthus holstii, Teclea nobilis and Allophylus abyssinicus. The amazing relief – the topography of Bwindi forest is composed of uplands and lowlands. Tourists who go gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest can testify that its a serious hustle. If you are to trek in Ruhija sector, try to train to gain physical fitness to be able to maneuver.
