The process is aiming at making chimpanzees familiar to human beings to facilitate treks. To date, chimpanzee habituation is only done in Kibale National park (6-7 hrs) from Kampala via mubende Fort portal road, a home to over 1,500 chimpanzees. Chimpanzee habituation process is done by the researchers for the period of 2-3 years and thereafter, they invite the journalists, scientists for mock exercise to see whether they are ready or suit for normal trekking. Currently, the cost of Chimpanzee Habituation goes to US$200 and expected to increase starting from 1st July 2020. It’s US$150 to foreign residents and US$70 for East Africans. Due to high demand for Chimpanzee Habituation, we recommend advance payment of your permits at Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). The exercise allows tourists stay in the presence of chimpanzees for quite a long period of time compared to normal chimpanzee trekking.
