They are also found in the Bwindi impenetrable forest of Uganda. Actually this forest hosts close to half of the remaining gorilla population in the whole world. Mountain gorillas are herbivores, and their diet mainly consists of leaves, stems, and fruits.

Mountain gorillas are highly endangered, and their population is estimated to be around 1,060 individuals in the wild. They face several threats, including habitat loss due to deforestation and agriculture, poaching, and civil unrest. Conservation efforts, including protected national parks and tourism, have helped to stabilize their population in recent years.

They are generally calm wild animals and are sometimes referred to as gentle giants because of their gentleness.

A group of mountain gorillas is called a family which is headed by mature male Gorillas known as silverbacks (the dominant gorillas). Like a father at home, the silverback is the major defender of the gorilla family.

Each group is headed by one dominant silverback but if it dies, the juvenile male Gorilla or a female can take over the leadership until the group gets a silverback to dominate the group. Any strong mature silverback from anywhere can take over the group after a serious struggle with other male Gorillas.
