Go Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National park (BINP)

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is situated in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley. Its mist-covered hillsides are blanketed by one of Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rain forests, which dates back over 25,000 years and contains almost 400 species of plants. More famously, this “impenetrable forest” also protects an estimated 400 mountain gorillas – roughly half of the world’s population, including several habituated groups, which can be tracked.  BINP also protects many other gorillas which are not yet habituated.

Bwindi Impenetrable national Park is endowed with four Gorilla trekking centres namely: Nkuringo, Ruhija, Rushaga and Buhoma. Many travelers choose to go gorilla trekking in Buhoma sector, why? its because, this sector offers less strenuous trek compared to Ruhija and Nkuringo. Rushaga sector also desired because of having many habituated Gorilla families.

Apart from normal Gorilla trekking, Rushaga sector also offers Gorilla habituation. An advanced encounter with Gorillas in natural habitat. Gorilla habituation is the process of making Gorillas familiar to human beings. Its done by experts, gorilla doctors, game rangers and primatologiests  for a duration of 2-3 years.

Gorilla tracking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (MGNP)

One of the most interesting and less strenuous Gorilla trekking is done in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is situated in the Virunga volcanoes which encompasses three inactive volcanoes, namely Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Sabyinyo. In altitude the national park ranges from 2,227 to 4,127 m (7,306 to 13,540 ft) and is part of the Nile River watershed area. It is contiguous with Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and the southern sector of Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Gorilla trekking starts from Ntobeko park headquarters at 7:30am. The exercise begins with briefing for 30 minutes  and thereafter, groups of trekkers embark on the walk to meet Gorillas in their natural environment. The rangers lead the tourists throughout the trek and on return, the trekkers are awarded with certificates of participation.
