Its among the major tourist activity in Uganda. Mountain hiking/ climbing is majorly done on 2 main mountains in Uganda where visitors can do mountain climbing on their Uganda safari, mountain Rwenzori the highest block mountain in western Uganda covering Kasese, Bundibugyo and Kabarole districts on the border with Democratic Republic of Congo. It has the highest mountain range known as Mount Stanley and third highest mountain in Africa which is 5,109 meters above sea level with highest peak margheritah. Mountain Rwenzori protects several mammal species, birds, reptiles like the 3 horned chameleons which is only found in here due to the high altitudes.
Another major mountaineering centre is mountain Elgon, its the largest and the highest Volcanic mountain in Uganda with the its highest called Wagagai. Mountain Elgon is situated in Eastern Uganda in Mbale district and makes up Mountain Elgon National Park It is also possible to climb the three mountains of Mgahinga including mount Muhabura, mount Sabinyo and mount Gahinga and experience the beautiful views of Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.
