A gorilla trekking permit/ pass is a document or card that allows you to trek Gorillas. In Uganda and Rwanda trekkers are allowed to spend only an hour with Gorillas. Gorilla permits are purchased from Uganda Wildlife Authority in Uganda or Rwanda Development Board in Rwanda. Permits can be purchased on behalf of the client by a reputable tour company/ tour operator or the client can buy them directly.

Unlike Rwanda, Uganda has four Gorilla trekking sectors and only a tour operator can advise which sector has availability of Gorilla permits and suitable accommodation. In Rwanda, the tour operator can request for you a certain Gorilla family to suit your needs.
The client him/her self can visit Uganda wildlife Authority or Rwanda Development offices to buy Gorilla permits. He or she must pay full amount and present the needed particulars like passport number, full name and country of residence.
The client can also book Gorilla permits online through emails and pay online before arrival. On arrival, he or she can just go to pick them or the client can send a trusted person to pick them of his/ her behalf.
Note: Persons below the age of 15 are not allowed to trek Gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda because:
-They cannot manage the hustle of searching for Gorillas in the forest which request much walks and endurance.
-They are easily susceptible to disease from animals and insects like mosquitoes, tsetse flies among others.
-In case of danger, they can be slow in defending themselves.
